Pargo Helps Out the Hornets

The American mission of the 20th century was to export our way of life to the world. Specifically, we wanted the world to embrace free markets. As the world listened to our story, though, the number of competitors American firms faced in the marketplace increased. And although competition is wonderful for consumers, it's not always so good for individual firms. Competition results in winners and losers, and when you are a loser the game doesn’t seem like so much fun.

Chris Paul becoming more important to Team USA

Chris Paul's role for the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team grows with each game. Jason Kidd is the starter at point guard. But Paul is clearly the guard who plays the most minutes and more often than not finishes the game.

Paul finding time for U.S. Olympic team

If the U.S. men's basketball team has learned anything about international basketball over the past decade, it's that a strong effort is needed every time out. A poor game can result in a loss.

To Russia, with love (and $4 million)

At least Jannero Pargo got the money he wanted. The reported $4 million the former Hornets guard will receive to play in Russia this year is more than he could pry from an NBA team, and not by a little. It's almost four times as much as the $1.08 million he would have gotten from New Orleans if he hadn't opted out of the final year of his contract, and just about doubles the $1.9 million that reportedly was offered to him by San Antonio, which allegedly made a pitch to lure Pargo away from the Hornets.

Cream (Paul) rising to the top

Can Chris Paul be stopped? His meteoric rise to the level of New Orleans superstar ... then NBA All-Star ... then MVP runner-up ... may well indicate that he'll never be slowed down by any conventional means. So unconventional means will have to do.

OKC Hornets season-ticket holders stuck in lottery pool with everyone else

Anthony Gerardi is excited the NBA is back. He isn't thrilled his season tickets will cost twice as much. What really bums him is it's doubtful he'll get his front-row seats back. Gerardi and 12,000 Hornet season-ticket holders will be just like everyone else. A computer randomly will select which fans get first shot at choosing their seats for the new NBA team.
